  • Intravaginal radiofrequency is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure done in a doctor's office that uses radiofrequency energy inside the vagina to generate heat, causing your body to make collagen and elastin, proteins that are important in connective tissues, including the skin, bones and cartilage. Collagen and elastin provide structural support and strength to these tissues. Collagen is also important in wound healing and tissue repair.

  • The procedure involves the insertion of a small, specialised device into the vagina. The device produces radiofrequency energy, which heats the vaginal tissue, causing it to produce collagen. The treatment typically takes less than 30 minutes and is performed in a doctor’s office.

  • The procedure is generally well-tolerated and causes minimal discomfort. You may experience mild heat sensation or pressure during the treatment. Depending on the treatment, you may require a topical anaesthetic to minimize any discomfort.

  • You can expect to have some mild bleeding from the vagina that usually stops after a day or two. You will notice swelling and redness at the opening of your vagina and the surrounding tissues (vulva) if the external skin was treated. This usually goes away after a few days but can last up to 2 weeks. You may see some small pin pricks if you had microneedling and they may scab. Do not scratch them! They will heal quickly. You may also have itching around the vulva. This is normal and a sign of tissue growth.

You may have some mild pain and pressure, this is normal and for most people nothing else is needed. Some may find relief using over the counter pain relievers such as tylenol. It is not normal to have severe pain.

  • For our treatments, you need to finish 3 treatments, each usually 4 weeks apart to obtain your optimum results. You can start to see improvement after the first treatment, however, it’s important to finish ALL THREE treatments as this will ensure that you get the best and longest lasting results.

  • Results can be seen as soon as a few weeks after your first treatment. However, it’s important that you complete ALL THREE treatments as this will ensure that you get the best and longest lasting results. Full results are achieved about 3-6 months after your last treatment as it takes time for your body to rebuild itself.

  • The duration of your results may vary depending on your age, overall health, and lifestyle factors. However, most women can expect to see improvements in vaginal tightness, lubrication, and urinary incontinence for up to 12 months or longer. We recommend getting once a year “touch up” treatment in order to maintain your results.

  • Women who experience vaginal laxity, dryness, change in sensation, urinary symptoms, recurrent urinary tract infections, genitourinary syndrome of menopause and urinary incontinence may be good candidates for intravaginal radiofrequency. Furthermore, radiofrequency to the external genitalia can help minimize and tighten larger labia and treat skin disorders such as lichen sclerosis. We will be happy to assess you to see if intravaginal radiofrequency is the best option for you.
